UNIX Tech Support -contract

Technical Support: 6+ month contractor
Location:  REMOTE work from home – financial district Toronto (King St & Bay St)
This role is more internal work which will work in the Dev/Ops team which sits between Dev and Support/Ops.
• Provides technical support activities for a software  development and testing environment.
• Installs, maintains and supports application/source code and/or its components and subsystems including third party software.
• Detects, diagnoses and reports related problems.
• Analyzes and resolves incidents, problems or known errors related to failures in application and supporting software components.
• Provides technical assistance to programming staff in the analysis of application software amends, performance and resource consumption.
• Creates and maintains complete documentation relative to the support of application software.
• Provides consultation to internal users with regard to software capabilities and use.
• Uses appropriate diagnostic tools to isolate and resolve incidents, problems or known errors.
• Assists development teams in requirements definition, system design and delivery of projects.
• Verifies technical specifications for development projects.
• Acts as lead to resolve internal application/system issues during the development life cycle
• Conducts system support validations/certifications and accepts turnover from development.
• Participates in daily scrum reviews
• Other related duties assigned as needed
• Acts as 2nd level to Client Support/Ops group
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ industry experience as a software integrator or developer
  • Excellent knowledge of scripting languages and tools (shell scripts, Perl)
  • Experience with deployment and configuration of distributed enterprise applications in a client/server or n-tier environment
  • Strong knowledge of  Middleware products : WebLogic or JBoss or WebSphere administration and deployment
  • Knowledge in JMS subsystem is an asset
  • Experience with high-volume, transaction-oriented computing systems
  • Unix (Sun Solaris and Linux) and Windows NT/2000/XP
  • Knowledge of database systems (Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL)
  • Excellent ability to work with clients and resolve client issues
  • Experience performing integration testing
  • Knowledge of all phases of the software development life cycle
  • Knowledge of C++, Java, J2EE, and web services is an asset
  • Experience implementing financial order management or trading applications is an asset
  • Familiarity with MQ (Message Query)
  • Strong knowledge of  Middleware products : WebLogic or JBoss or WebSphere administration and deployment
  • Knowledge in JMS subsystem is an asset
  • Solid Unix scripting skills
